I’m not a Catholic.
I am married to one.
I was raised protestant, so the saints are all outside of my realm of knowledge.
HOWEVER, now I’m trying to sell a house… and it isn’t selling.
So, many people have told me to turn to Saint Joseph for help.
Have any of you done this?

I did a little online research.
The story and practice each have many different stories of ‘origin’. However, it seems that in the 70s it became a practice to bury Saint Joseph in your yard in order to sell real estate. In fact, Amazon offers a whole real estate selling kit with Saint Joe.
He’s supposed to work quickly.
There are many stories online that tout the validity of this practice. In fact, there’s a whole website with testimonials. One says he tried the front yard and then the backyard and it didn’t work… so he threw the statue in the trash. A few days later, his newspaper headline: ‘Local Dump Sold’. <grin>
So, I figured I’d give it a shot and let you all watch the clock with me.
My family, close friends and I buried the statue (head down) on Saturday.
Here’s the prayer:
O, Saint Joseph, you who taught our Lord the carpenter’s trade, and saw to it that he was always properly housed, hear my earnest plea. I want you to help me now as you helped your foster-child Jesus, and as you have helped many others in the matter of housing. I wish to sell this [house/property] quickly, easily, and profitably and I implore you to grant my wish by bringing me a good buyer, one who is eager, compliant, and honest, and by letting nothing impede the rapid conclusion of the sale.
Dear Saint Joseph, I know you would do this for me out of the goodness of your heart and in your own good time, but my need is very great now and so I must make you hurry on my behalf.
Saint Joseph, I am going to place you in a difficult position with your head in darkness and you will suffer as our Lord suffered, until this [house/property] is sold. Then, Saint Joseph, i swear before the cross and God Almighty, that i will redeem you and you will receive my gratitude and a place of honour in my home.
